For the first assessments of the Media, Identities & Representations course I decided that I’m going to talk about how the idea of beauty and the beauty canons change in the different countries due to their culture, thoughts and taste.
With the topic that I have chosen I’m going to cover 2 of the main topics that we are looking at in class: gender and nationality.
There are a lot of different nationalities in the world, and because of that there are different types of people. Each of them have their own physical appearance, tastes, virtues and defects and that is what make them unique and special from the rest.
I’m mainly going to focus in females because I think that they are the ones that have more complexes and insecurities with their body because of the beauty standards that the society nowadays imposes.
When we first think about the perfect women’s body we automatically think on adjectives such as: thin, flat belly, long legs, big breast, big butt…If women don’t achieve all those aspects they can feel depressed and not accepted in the society. They feel ugly.
All those thoughts about the perfect women are not true since, as we are going to see with this work, there are different thoughts about what is consider pretty or perfect in the different countries.
It’s wrong to establish a beauty canon because every culture has their own likes and dislikes.
